But one of my new year's resolutions is to STOP.COMPLAINING. And start focusing on the positive more. Here's the positive in my life right now:
My husband is hilarious, and I love the way he makes me laugh. Yesterday he was dancing to Kanye West, doing what he dubbed a "reverse bunny hop" and "running ostrich." It was... interesting. I tried to get a video and he said no, because "that would end up on YouTube and this is for your eyes only, babe."
Eden is such a little lady I can hardly stand it. A few days ago she said, "Are we actually having this conversation right now?" Seriously, I think she's all of a sudden become 15. And she's got strong opinions about how the world is. Tonight she got a little toy chipmunk girl in a Happy Meal* and she named her Phyllis. I have no idea where she got that name. But please don't mistake - Phyllis, despite the name and the purple dress and the ponytail, is a BOY.

Today I took Leah to back up daycare downtown (check out my commuting partner - she's so, so serious on the bus!):

Anyway, when I picked her up she was holding the teacher's phone. I took her from the teacher and started trying to get her to say hello in the phone. She ignored my requests and instead wrapped her little arms around me, put her head on my shoulder, and said "awwwww....." As if she's saying, "Mom, I am so glad you're here. Thanks for picking me up." And I melted into a puddle of goo.
I've joined a "triad" of women ("triad" because it's actually four women and so Bryan calls it a "quad-ad" (haha, my punny honey strikes again!)), and we're going to start meeting every other week for accountability and Bible study - it's been a loooong time since I've been in consistent fellowship with a small group in that type of setting and I'm really looking forward to it. I really, really need people in my life to call me out on my BS.
Also - tonight I got to sit on the couch and watch a movie (The Talking Words Factory - a favorite Christmas gift from Dupy!) with two of my favorite people in the whole world, and they didn't even argue when I took a picture! (It's another new year's goal of mine to take more pictures of myself with my family - especially after the episode of my brother's wedding; I believe there exists exactly one shred of photographic evidence that I was there.)

So. Overall, life is fantastic. It's just during the weekdays that it kinda sorta isn't going my way. So the way I see it, I may have the Reverse Midas Touch at work, but things are so golden at home already, on balance, it sort of works out.
*yes, we had dinner at McDonald's and yes we feel a bit guilty about it, but (defending myself to myself): (1) we do this approximately once a year; (2) as we suspected, Eden only ate the apple slices anyway (she hardly ever eats more than 4 or 5 bites of dinner); and (3) Leah had none of it.

We go to McDonalds. About once a month. There, I said it. So don't feel badly about having Phyllis! She sure looked colorful with your file folder there!
